GSI - Gesellschaft für Schweißtechnik International mbH, Branch SLV Berlin-Brandenburg

The SLV Berlin-Brandenburg of today was founded in 1927 being the oldest of the welding institutes (Schweißtechnische Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt) in Germany. Apart from the standard tasks of an SLV, the following specific fields of application are to be emphasised:
- Education and qualification of welders and brazers, respectively for the aviation and space vehicle construction industry
- Issuing of certificates for welding, brazing, thermal spraying of military equipment acc. to DVS 2718 and DVS 2719
- Approval of coordinating personnel for welding, brazing, thermal spraying in the aviation and space vehicle construction industry acc. to DVS 2715-1
A specific feature is the competences on the field of corrosion and analytical electron microscopy. Besides of the detection of failures due to corrosion, tests on corrosion resistance of the most various materials and final products are part of the scope of services. Emphasis is also laid on the micro-zone analytic for the determination of dusts, residuals, particles or fibres. The comprehensive scope of offers on the field of material testing is supplemented by the microfocus radiography technology enabling the non-destructive examination of the finest failure sizes. For friction stir welding the SLV Berlin-Brandenburg has been patentee with the TWI since 1998. With its know how it serves as a link between process development and industrial application. In doing so, technologies related to the component are developed for the future user.
