In the year 2009 the SLV Hannover can view back to having existed for 70 years as a provider of education and services for trade and industry in the regions of Lower Saxony and Bremen and the adjacent areas of Hess and Schleswig-Holstein. Having a staff of almost 60 our customers and business partners are offered a comprehensive service on the most various fields of joining, testing and materials engineering as well as quality assurance and building supervision. Through the merger with the GSI mbH in the year 2003 our customers are now being offered the whole range of services of all individual institutes.

Individual branches of the GSI have become so called central offices for selected fields of application. The SLV Hannover is an overriding competence centre for the fields of  

• Welding engineering in superstructures (welding of rails)
• Qualification of welding shops in the field of superstructures on behalf of the German Railway Authority (EBA)
• Welding in pipe line constructions as a partner of the pipeline industry association (rbv) 
•  Plastic welding acc. to DVS guideline
• Welding of cast materials
•  Education as underwater welder according to the European guideline DVS EWF 1186
