On March 3, 2015, the 6th specialist conference entitled "Dimensioning and Designing" took place at SLV Halle GmbH under the management of Dr. Kranz and Mr. Wagner from the Research & Development and Materials Engineering departments. In the period from January 27 to 30, 2015, Professor Xie Yinglong, the Director of WTI, visited SLV Duisburg for consultations with the executive board of GSI and the management of the branch about the status of the cooperation as well as about ongoing and future projects.

The utilisation of digital media in a way appropriate for the target groups is contributing to modern and successful training and further education. In the field of the welding engineer, GSI SLV has, for over ten years already, offered not only the traditional presence courses but also, as an alternative, the possibility of distance courses as further education measures incorporating e‑learning. Until now, it has been unusual to utilise digital media for the practical training.

Representatives of companies from several Baltic countries congregated at the GT Corporation in Tallinn on December 15, 2014 in order to discuss the status of the training and qualification testing of underwater welders. Within the framework of FABTECH 2014 in Atlanta (Georgia, USA), a presentation, organised by the American Welding Society (AWS) and GSI‑SLV, on the subject of the future IWE / IWT training in the USA took place on November 11, 2014.
The speakers were Jeff Hufsey for AWS and Roger van den Brekel for GSI‑SLV.

During this presentation, it was illustrated to the listeners what the participants can expect and what prerequisites they must possess. Furthemore, the structure and sequence of this training were explained on the basis of the IIW guideline IAB‑252r1‑11.
