Hydrogen determination

We have at our disposal a modern Phoenix G4 hydrogen analyser from Bruker Elementels. This can be used in order to measure even low hydrogen contents which may lead to hydrogen-induced cold cracks particularly in the case of high-strength steels.

We can determine diffusible hydrogen contents which effuse at temperatures between 150°C and 1,050°C.

  • Hydrogen determination procedures are typically carried out in the case of:
  • Hydrogen input during the welding process in the laboratory (e.g. according to DIN EN ISO 3690)
  • Hydrogen input during the welding process on the building site (e.g. according to DIN EN ISO 3690)
  • Hydrogen input during welding through colour coatings; shop primers
  • Hydrogen input during welding through welding separating spray
  • Total hydrogen content of welding wires

In our laboratories, we can investigate the influence of the hydrogen input during various welding procedures:

  • Submerged arc (SA) welding
  • Gas-shielded metal arc (MIG/MAG) welding
  • Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding
  • Stick electrode (MMA) welding

 

Since the welding conditions on the building site frequently have nothing in common with workshop or laboratory conditions, we can also fabricate specimens in situ on your premises during your ongoing production. We subsequently analyse these in our laboratory with modern equipment
