Non destructive testing, NDT has become an indispensible tool for quality control and quality assurance in many industries. GSI - the Association for Welding Technology International will present methods that they developed in order to improve education in this field at the World Conference on Non-Destructive Testing in Munich from the 13th to the 17th of June 2016. Seven participants from Saudi-Arabia, Sudan, Ireland, Denmark, France, the Netherlands and China attended the course "International Welding Inspection Personnel" in November/December 2015.
The participants, with existing experience in welding technology, have acquired testing technological knowledge of classical testing procedures, like e.g. ultrasonic testing or radiographic testing during the three weeks' course carried out in English. The practical tuition of the different methods was particularly welcomed by the group.
All participants passed the examination with very good results.
On November 30, 2015, around 60 international guests bade farewell to the longstanding Foreign Coordinator of GSI, Dipl. Ing. Christian Ahrens, on his retirement. With their presence, gifts, greetings and welcoming addresses, the guests paid their respects to Mr. Ahrens for his work for SLV Duisburg and GSI in over 30 years. Via a project implemented by the globally active development organisation sequa GmbH, 18 vocational college teachers at colleges from several cities in Egypt have been trained to become welding shop foremen due to the promotion provided by the Foreign Office. In a competition in which 80 teachers took part in Egypt, these 18 vocational college teachers had qualified to participate in the training at GSI-Niederlassung Bildungszentren Rhein-Ruhr. The certificates were handed over by the Lord Mayor of the City of Essen, Mr. Thomas Kufen, in the presence of representatives of sequa and GSI.Read more
With effect from October 16, 2015, Mr. Klaus Billen was appointed as the Deputy Quality Management Officer (QMO) at GSI. Mr. Billen took over the Deputy's position from Mrs. Sydekum who handed over the function due to parental leave.
The main focal point of the tasks is the accreditation of measures according to the Accreditation and Authorisation Ordinance for Employment Promotion (AZAV). In cooperation with the QMO at GSI (Heinz M. Klein), Mr. Billen is partly responsible for the quality management at GSI.
