The utilisation of digital media in a way appropriate for the target groups is contributing to modern and successful training and further education. In the field of the welding engineer, GSI SLV has, for over ten years already, offered not only the traditional presence courses but also, as an alternative, the possibility of distance courses as further education measures incorporating e‑learning. Until now, it has been unusual to utilise digital media for the practical training.
Over 50 participants from eight countries (Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan) took part in the event.
Not only welding technology but also, to an increasing extent, non-destructive testing are being included in the specialist work of the regional branch. Representatives of companies from several Baltic countries congregated at the GT Corporation in Tallinn on December 15, 2014 in order to discuss the status of the training and qualification testing of underwater welders. Within the framework of FABTECH 2014 in Atlanta (Georgia, USA), a presentation, organised by the American Welding Society (AWS) and GSI‑SLV, on the subject of the future IWE / IWT training in the USA took place on November 11, 2014.
The speakers were Jeff Hufsey for AWS and Roger van den Brekel for GSI‑SLV.
